So things are wrapping up here, I’ve finished all my end of year reports and grades. The students are looking forward to getting off; I am too to be honest. The power cuts continue to get worse, and now Bingham’s area of town is losing water on a regular basis too. Our house still seems to get it, maybe because we’re slightly lower in the city. But it is a real nuisance for those living at Bingham. Living without power is do-able, but water is more of a necessity! We’re really praying hard for rain to come soon here. The constant power cuts are starting to get a bit predictable; if you have power one day you almost certainly won’t have it the next day. The lack of power means that none of the shops sell milk anymore, as it goes off very quickly without fridges. We’re having to make do with powdered milk.
Street ministry is winding up too. I’m not sure if we’ll have any more nights; last week I took my camera out to take some photos of the boys that we usually go to see.
Last week Murray Overton, the director here, gave me some interesting news. It seems that the IT teacher that they had planned for next year is having some support problems and hasn’t raised enough money as yet to be able to come. Murray was keen to know if I’d be able to come back, at least for the first semester until December, to teach if he wasn’t able to. Even if he could come, Murray said that there was plenty of need for me to come back for the first semester. I’ve been thinking and praying about this, and it really feels right, at least for the first semester. All of my friends about here are very excited at the prospect of me returning.
Today I took a trip with Brian up Entoto mountain on one of his motorbikes. He has two now, so each of us rode one. He has a much bigger and powerful one which he gave me a spin on, it’s quite something! Dirt biking on a dirt track up the mountain was really good craic; something I’d hope to do more of if I come back.
Take care,
Niall
