January is nearly over already. Crazy!
I went out with friends to celebrate my birthday a couple of weeks ago. We went to an Armenian restaurant in Addis, which has great food and is pretty inexpensive. It was great to celebrate with friends. In the morning of my birthday, my house mate Yohannes wished me happy birthday, and then said "I'm glad you were born." I thought it was a very nice thing to say to someone on their birthday, and then heard the same phrase from a number of other Ethiopian friends. Apparently, "Enquan tewuldk" (or literally translated I'm glad you were born) is a common greeting here on your birthday. A nice cultural observation!

School started two weeks ago, and I am very encouraged at how God has answered prayers for a less stressful job this term. As well as practicing being more guarded in how I offer my time to after school clubs etc, I have had one of my 4 bible classes taken off me, and have had another member of staff volunteer to assist me in the other three. This means someone else to talk to about ideas on the class direction, someone else to look to when the classroom discussion falls flat, just someone else to assist me and help me do a better job of teaching the students, preparing them for issues and discussions that they will meet outside of Bingham. We will be looking a lot at worldviews this term, and how different worldview define's peoples outlook on life and influences decisions they make and how they interpret the world around them, as well as how Christian worldview is distinct from other secular worldviews. Please pray that the students will be challenged and strengthened in their faith as a result of these topics that we explore. Pray that those who maybe are weak in their faith, or may be easily influenced by others would be challenged to think seriously about what we are discussing.
Last weekend we had Bingham's annual Field day, or sports day. This is a school wide event, and takes up two days. It's great to see the whole school out, and so many parents, friends and relatives come too to enjoy the day. One of the staff here has a remote control camera helicopter, so I managed to get some of his photos from the event. He has some great aerial shots of Bingham!
Please pray for next year, Bingham has a big need for more teachers next year. The school needs to find another 24 staffing positions. We've been asked to see if anyone of our supporters know of anyone who might be interested in coming. Do you konw anyone who might want to come to an awesome school and serve God in an amazing way? Here are some resources that help let people know what teaching at Bingham is like, if you know anyone who might be interested.

On a final note, meet the latest addition to our house. He hasn't got a name yet, let me know if you've any suggestions! He is basically only here for one reason; to scare away the rats that have taken residence in the roof of some of our rooms here. We've tried many types of traps and solutions, this apparently is one of the best solutions, even the noise and smell of a cat gets rid of unwanted rodents.
