Wow! Quite a month. Apologies for the lack of updates recently. I've arrived back to quite a workload!!
I got back to Addis Ababa safely at the start of the month, and got through customs and everything OK. This is always something to be thankful to God for, I have learned not to assume that things will be smooth every time. I had a couple of days to relax before I was due to start at Bingham. I installed the spare parts for my car that I'd brought in (I now have a working passenger window and stereo), and generally chilled out.
On Wednesday the 5th August, the Bingham orientation program began. The next week and a half consisted of various briefings and discussions about the school, it's vision and mission, and how we work together as a staff to impact and change the student's lives, and to witness Christ in all that we do. It was a useful time, but fairly full on, most days were completely full.
School began on Tuesday 18th August, so today marks one week since the start of school. It has been quite a shock to the system. At the moment, I'm having trouble juggling the IT coordinator role with getting my head around being a teacher again. Ideally, I have 50% of my time as IT coordinator, and 50% as a teacher. As a teacher, I'm responsible for the grade 9 and 10 GCSE IT classes, as well as the 11th grade bible class. That gives 12 hour-long classes each week, but at the moment, I'm finding I need to do a lot of planning. Anyway, once I get a couple months under my belt, and have a better feel of the classes and syllabus, I'm sure that this will take less of my time, and I'll be able to get back to a 50/50 work load between teaching and IT assistance. That is before all of the extra curricular activities I've been signed up for as well...
Hope all is well at home!
Niall
