The school year is officially over at Bingham Academy, last night was the graduation ceremony and dinner for the grade 12 students. 20 students graduated this year from the school, which is a fairly big class. Many other years, its closer to 10. The students were all congratulated for their achievement, and encouraged to go from Bingham putting God first as they transition to university or otherwise. It is nice to see their years at the school recognised.
After the ceremony, there was a graduation dinner, held at a local hotel. Unfortunately, the hotel's claim that they could accommodate up to 250 guests proved to be nonsense, and 225 of us from Bingham arrived to a room suited for about half that. They definitely didn't have enough food. So about 40 of the staff had to leave and go to another restaurant in order to get fed. I initially assumed that the numbers might have been lost in translation, but actually Bingham had paid the full amount for each of the 225 guests in advance, so the hotel was very much aware of how many people were coming. Quite frustrating for them, I doubt those of us who had to go elsewhere to get fed will ever see our ticket fee refunded. Anyway, not wanting to let the hotel's poor service cast a shadow on things, we returned after eating to join in the after party.
At least the hotel had a good view of Addis!
The end of school means that a lot of people are about to leave. It's a difficult time of the year! So there will be quite a few leaving parties in the next couple of days, saying goodbye to a number of people that I've got to know. I think I'll find it especially difficult to say goodbye to my old roommate Aaron and his wife Zide, who are very good friends. Please continue to pray for Bingham as well, the school is still missing quite a lot of key staff members for next year. Alternatively, if you or anyone you know might be interested in coming out to teach in Ethiopia, perhaps you could check out the website! http://binghamacademy.net/opportunities/ You don't even have to be a teacher!
Just a couple thoughts scribbled down for now. Talk again soon!
