I've arrived in Addis Ababa. Such a smooth journey, it has been a real answer to prayer. I was worried about my overweight baggage (about 10kg over my limit), my oversize carry on (another 10kg over its limit), and the potential for import charges in Ethiopia. All passed without too much trouble, save for a £50 carry on charge in Heathrow which I manage to sweet talk down to £30. Very blessed. Praise God for answered prayer!
I got into the airport about 6.30 and had to clear an Ebola check initially. There had been about 3 flights that landed at once, and it took quite a while for everyone's forehead to be scanned/temperature checked individually. However, it's good to see they're taking things seriously here. After immigration and customs, it was great to see Christy Johnson and Brad Adams from Bingham Academy come to meet me. After about 2 weeks of "goodbye"s it was nice to have a "welcome back". I dropped my bags off and headed straight out to language school.
The language school I'm attending were a little hesitant to allow me into the class a week later than I was supposed to be there, but I'd been able to brush up on the previous week's material and managed to keep up OK. It's basic vocabulary at the moment; things will inevitably get much harder.
I'm staying at the guest house on the SIM HQ compound, for the moment. It's nice, with most amenities and internet. I'll still keep my eyes open for suitable housing where I may be able to live off compound.
Anyway, just a quick post to confirm I'd arrived. Thanks for your prayers for me in my travels, praise God for such a smooth trip. Continue to pray for me as I settle back down into life in Ethiopia! I'll try to post more with a few pics in the coming days.
Hope all's well back home,
Niall
