Work continues at a regular rate. The IT teacher who will be taking over next year has come for a visit for a few days to get the hang of things as neither Dick nor I will be there when he starts in August. He is a brand new teacher, like I was when I started. I think he is really looking forward to starting into teaching and it’s great to be able to give him all the advice on how to get the hang of teaching and living here. He is staying with Brian and me in our house and I think that already he is getting a preference for living off compound when he returns!
Because Tuesday of this week was a holiday, a number of us took him out of town to show him the more relaxed side of life here. We took him to a local brewery where there is a recreation area with a swimming pool and walks around a forest. It is a very nice area and a great place to spend an afternoon relaxing in the sun. Hopefully it will help him look forward to what life will be like here!
Last weekend was another long weekend so some of us went away again, this time to Awash National Park, where Brian and I visited about this time last year. We went to camp this time, and brought tents which we pitched by a crocodile infested river. Brian bought some scrap meat with which to lure the crocs in. We spent the weekend feeding the crocodiles meat, catching monkeys with home made traps, and swimming in the river, although we only swam further down stream, next to a large waterfall with a very strong current that the crocs don’t like, so it’s safe. All great fun. I’ll elaborate on some of the pictures:
All for now,
Niall
